All-Natural DIY Face Mask for Dry Skin (with honey!)
  • Dry skin? You'll love this DIY face mask with essential oils and honey!

DIY Face Mask for Dry Skin, Essential Oils + Honey

We’re going to give you a DIY face mask recipe today.

It’s made with white clay, argan oil, and honey, as well as a few essential oils to nurture your skin.

We love this blend for dry skin and sensitive skin.

If you have sensitive or dry skin, you might have tended to steer clear of clay face masks. You just never know how your unique skin is going to respond to something, and clay tends to have a tightening, clarifying effect that can feel itchy and cause temporary redness for some people’s dry skin.

In most cases, any redness that shows up calms down very quickly. Even so, an experience like that may have had you thinking, “Maybe DIY face masks are not for me . . .”

We hope you’ll give this face mask recipe a try! It’s a very moisturizing mask that doesn’t dry out.

Sometimes it just takes finding the ideal ingredients for YOUR skin to make all the difference.

White clay is a gentle, mild cosmetic clay, also known as “China clay.” It’s our top choice for face masks for sensitive, dry skin, and has a silky feel.

Argan oil and honey help to nourish and rejuvenate skin. Argan oil is rich with antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and vitamin E. As for honey, it is a classic ingredient in DIY face masks—especially for dry skin. It has a natural antibacterial effect (great for acne-prone skin), is full of antioxidants, soothes irritation, and moisturizes.

    Here’s the recipe . . .

DIY White Clay, Argan Oil & Honey Face Mask

    • 5 tablespoons of white kaolin clay
    • 1 tablespoon of argan oil (Argania spinosa)
    • ½ tablespoon of honey

Mix up all of your ingredients in a bowl. You will need 1 four oz glass jar to hold this mask.

You can use your fingers or a soft make-up brush to apply the mask to your clean, dry skin.

If you’d like your clay face mask to be a little thicker, dust in a bit more clay. If you’d like it more liquidy, add a bit more argan oil.

This face mask will not get totally dry. Face masks made with clay and water will harden and dry on your skin, but face masks made with clay, oil, and honey will not. (Water evaporates, but argan oil and honey don’t.)

That’s why we like this face mask recipe for dry skin. It helps to clarify without drying skin out.

Leave the face mask on for about 15 minutes, and then use a warm steamy cloth to wash it off. You’ll get a gentle exfoliating effect from the clay as you do.

Want to add some essential oil to your DIY face mask? We love that idea!

We’d suggest sticking with about 10 drops of essential oil total in this face mask recipe. (That’s just over 3 drops of essential oil for every 1 oz of the mask.)

The skin of your face can be so sensitive, and essential oils are highly concentrated. Not to mention this face mask will be applied around your eyes, and we definitely want to keep essential oils away from our eyes.

If you reduce the recipe amounts above (maybe you don’t want to make 3 oz of a face mask), then be sure to reduce the essential oil drop counts you add, too.

Here are some suggestions to try . . .

    • 10 drops of frankincense essential oil (Boswellia carterii)
    • 10 drops of carrot seed essential oil (Daucus carota)
    • 10 drops of geranium essential oil (Pelargonium × asperum)
    • 10 drops of patchouli essential oil (Pogostemon cablin)

We hope this mask leaves your skin radiant and glowing!
